25 Nov 2007 - Junior Speedo National League Final.
Thurrock Swimming Club's talented crop of young swimmers recently headed north to compete in this year's Junior Speedo National League Final.
This is the blue riband event of British Junior swimming and one that every club in the country aspires to contest. In an electrifying atmosphere, a capacity crowd saw Thurrock's top swimmers aged between 9 and 12 compete against the best young swimmers in the UK from large established mainstream clubs such as City of Liverpool, Boro of Kirklees and Lincoln Vulcans.
Thurrock swimmers once again put on a magnificent display of sprint and relay swimming and proved that Essex's premier swimming club has a bright future. Qualifying for the national final is the benchmark of UK Junior Swimming and looking back on previous finals the names of olympians, and international swimmers have regularly cropped up, so some of Thurrock's young swimmers could well be stars of the future.
Club officials and coaches are extremely proud that the junior team are now officially ranked amongst the top 8 British junior swimming teams in the UK. Club Secretary Phil Nice added his congratulations and expressed his delight at this remarkable achievement; "we fully recognise that none of this is possible without the extreme hard work of our swimmers, the support of their parents and the combined efforts of a small army of volunteers and helpers, all of whom are extremely proud of what the swimmers have worked so hard to achieve"
"The Junior Speedo Team would like to thank SDL Glass & Glazing Limited for kindly sponsoring the team".
