13 Apr 2007 - Making a Splash

The Thurrock Swimming Club has been making a splash for Little Havens Children's Hospice.

The boys and girls have gone to great 'lengths' to support the charity by donating a giant kangaroo and Easter Eggs to the children and siblings at the hospice. They have also promised to take part in future fundraising events.

The swimmers decided to choose Little Havens as its official charity after hearing about a local boy who had used its services. Chair of the Fundraising Committee Hazel Day says, 'Some children had heard of Little Havens and some hadn't. After a talk given by Little Havens, all were enlightened and inspired to do something.'

The gifts were handed over to Thurrock Community Fundraiser Nadia Van Woerkom. 'The Thurrock Swimming Club has been very eager to help out the charity and we hope to organise a Swimathon later in the year.'

The Thurrock Swimming Club was formed in 1964 at Blackshots and has been the Essex County Club Champions for three of the last four years.
