4 Nov 2006 - Double Medal Success for Thurrock
Thurrock swimmers Molly Epsley and Shannon Harold produced a double medal success at the recent Eastern Region Youth swimming championships held at the spectacular University of East Anglia Sportspark complex in Norwich.
Competing against swimmers from across 6 Eastern region counties, the duo who both atatend Gable Hall school in Corringham, produced a magnificent display in the 15 year girls distance events. In the gruelling 1500m Freestyle, the swimmers were so evenly matched, they swam neck and neck for the entire race and were remarkably only separated by less than half a second at the finish. Molly age 13 from Horndon on the Hill took the gold (18:21.43), while 15 year old Shannon from Corringham took silver (18:21.82). Both swimmers also attained the national qualifying time for their respective ages, which earns them the right to compete against the UKs finest swimmers at next years National swimming championships.
Both Shannon and Molly also produced fine swims in the 800m Freestyle, placing 5th and 6th respectively.
Thurrock also produced a host of fine top ten finishes in the girls 15 and under category. 13 year old Megan Langridge from Grays took 5th place in the 200m fly (2:33.36), 14 year old Georgia Hunt bagged 6th place in the 200m Breast (2:59.50), while Kerriann Chipperfield age 13 swam to 7th place in the 200m fly (2:38.85). Grays Convent student Emma Backhurst was placed 7th in the 1500m Free (19:30.33) and 14 year old Charlotte Lamb took 9th in the 200 Breast (3:02.80).
Two of Thurrock's boys; Conor Harold and Braden Wren also joined in on the success in the 15 and under 800m Freestyle. 13 year old Conor Harold swam to 5th place (9:42.75), with Braden also 13, taking 9th (9:56.87)
Thurrock's success was completed by 16 year old Jessica Ford from Grays who continued her outstanding year in the pool by gaining an impressive 7th place in the girls open 200m Breast (2:56.65)
