8 Oct 2006 - Timetrials with Runnymede

Thurrock Swimming Club took their youngest squads to a special time trials held at Runnymede Pool in Benfeet. For some of the swimmers, this was their first taste of competition outside of Blackshots Pool but the meet had the aim of giving all the swimmers a chance to taste competition in a ?no pressure? environment.

The youngsters duly responded with typical Thurrock style with all achieving personal best times and some gaining qualifying times for the county.

The 1998 born swimmers swam 50m Freestyle and Backstroke, with Jake Mills from Chafford Hundred gaining county times in both 50m Backstroke (40.2) and 50m Freestyle(47.23). George Epsly from Horndon swam an excellent 42.61 for freestyle, and 50.43 for backstroke with Daniel Thompson(48.06 f/s, 51.02 back) Kelsey Cutting (51.51f/s, 1.07.20 back), Ashley Clarke 53.91f/s, 1.02.04 back), Kieron Gore(47.54f/s, 56.54 back),
Molly Merritt(51.96f/s, 57.77 back), and William Manning(48.85f/s, 1.00.22 back) all giving a very good account of themselves.

The older swimmers competed in 200m Freestyle and Individual Medley events, again several swimming these for the very first time competitively. Salaam Motin leadthe way with 2.40.32 (freestyle), and 3.05.14(Medley). Also setting excellent times were Thomas Archer(3.28.96 f/s, 4.11.02 i/m), Nicholas Umfreville(3.40.92 f/s, 4.42.51 i/m), Sarah Makovics(4.10.26 f/s, 5.15.92i/m), Eloise Lyons(4.12.80 f/, 4.52.20 i/m),

Some of Thurrocks more experienced youngster, Gareth Hawkins, Kayleigh Simms, Georgia Mills, Amy Gore, Joe Brown, Rachael Moore also clocked up excellent personal best times which prompted Coach Debbie Grix to say how well she thought the team had swum, especially those who had to overcome ?first time? nerves.
