"Thurrock's Best Swimmers off to the National Championships.
Five of the Boroughs best swimmers are off to the ASA National Championships
next week which is being held at the Ponds Forge Olympic Swimming Arena in
Sheffield.
The swimmers - all members of Thurrock Swimming Club have all achieved the
stringent qualifying times at ASA licensed galas held throughout the past 12
months and now represent the Club at the nations Premier Swimming Event.
Making her debut at 'the Nationals' is 12 year old Abigail Sayer from Stifford
Clays. The William Edwards student qualified for the 200m Fly back in April and
now goes to meet the best swimmers from the rest of the country along with
international competitors from Ireland and Turkey who are also taking part.
No stranger to the National Stage is 15 year old Sam Ward from Aveley , who has qualified for every National Championships since he was 11. Sam will be swimming in the 200m Fly , where is is ranked as the 3rd fastest 15 year old, as well as the 100m Fly and 1500m Freestyle events.
Keriann Chipperfield has qualified for 4 events, the 200m fly and the 200m, 400m and 800m Freestyle events giving this talented 12 year old the most swims from the Thurrock Squad on just her 2nd visit to Ponds Forge.
13 year old Molly Epsly from Horndon has 2 swims in her speciality distance
events. The Gable Hall student will be competing in the gruelling 1500m and
800m freestyle events in the 50m Olympic size pool. And it will be three years
in a row for 13 year old Megan Langridge from Grays as she once again takes part in the 200m Fly.
Chief Coach Alex Morgan praised her squads dedication to their sport.
'National Qualifying times are exceptionally tough to achieve. It is only by
extreme hard work that swimmers make this grade of competition. Each swimmer trains for up to 20 hours a week but it is terrific when the training, coaching support from the club and the parents all comes to fruition in this way?.'
The ASA national championships take place from 27th July to the 6th August.
