Junior Speedo League : Final
This year's final of the M11 Junior Speedo League promised to be a very tough meet, Thurrock qualified in 6th place of Division 1 and were pitched up against the best other teams from the South East; Runnymede, Kingston Royals, Barnet, Ruislip + Northwood and Romford. To hold their place it meant that they had to really swim their socks off.
The Thurrock team made an excellent start in the first four races with a 2nd place from 10 year old Bradley Clarke from Grays in 50m Freestyle (33.92) and a 1st from Chafford Hundred youngster, 8 year old Salaam Motin in 25m Breaststroke (21.16).
Our ten year olds swimmers notched up several victories. In 50m Backstroke Georgia Mills from Stifford Clays swam 42.72seconds with Gareth Hawkins victorious in 38.42 seconds. Grays swimmers Katherine Stephens (17.57) and Sonny Ford (16.96) both swam to victory in the 25m Fly in 17.57 seconds and 16.96 seconds respectively and the Boys Freestyle Relay team of George Fautley, Thomas Head, Charlie Davis and Bradley Clarke romped home in first place also.
Harriette Davis swam to very close second places in the 11 years and under 50m Backstroke (36.63) and 12 years and under 50m Backstroke (36.43). Other second places were swum by Abigail Sayer 12/U 50m Fly (36.56), 10/U Boys Medley Relay, Gareth Hawkins 11/U 50m Backstroke (38.43) and Rachael Moore 9 years 25m Backstroke (21.10).
Chief coach Alex Morgan said afterwards that all members of the team swam impressively to see Thurrock finish in 5th Place in an exceptionally close final just one point behind fourth placed Ruislip.
Well done to all the swimmers that took place in the Final.
