12 Aug 2005 - 2005 National Age Group and Youth Championships
Eigth Thurrock swimmers took part in the 2005 National Age Group and Youth Championships which were held at the Ponds Forge complex in Sheffield. 12 year old Megan Langridge from Grays made it two in a row as she again qualified for the finals of the 200m Butterfly, finishing 9th overall in a personal best time of 2.34.55.
Despite swimming his best ever 200m Fly, 14 year old Samuel Ward from Aveley was just outside the finalist finishing in 11th place over all (2.18.59). And in his first nation championships, 11 year old Charlie Hayes from South Stifford also swam a lifetime best performance to finish 12th in his 200m Fly event (2.49.01).
Two other swimmers taking part in their first National Championships were 11 year Kerriann Chipperfield and 12 year old Molly Epsly. Both girls rose to the occasion of Britain's top youth even to swim personal best times. Kerriann swam a terrific 1.16.18 time to finish 20th in the 100m fly, with Molly completing the 800m freestyle in 10.01.13 to finish 24th in the country overall.
Other Thurrock swimmers taking part were Rhys Mould (14 years/1500m Freestyle 18.00.31 35th place), Georgia Huntion Clarke (14 years/100m Backstroke 1.10.89 39th place) and Brooke Turner (16 years - OPEN/200m Individual medley 57th place). Thurrock chief coach was delighted with her team's performance at such a big prestigious event.
