Thurrock Swimming Club celebrated a spectacular medal winning weekend as they completed their last ever Southern Counties District Championships held at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre. Altogether, 25 of the clubs top swimmers qualified to swim in 115 events, and went on to reach 22 finalists positions, making this Thurrock's most successful championships for many years.
Two swimmers returned with silver medals.12 year old Megan Langridge from Grays. touched less than a second behind the eventual winner of the 200m Fly, ( 2.34.90). She also reached the final of the 100m fly where she finished 7th (1.14.0) And 13 year old Georgia Hunton-Clark also from Grays won her silver medal for the 100m Backstroke (1.09.5) She went on to make 3 further finals finishing 5th in 200m Backstroke (2.30.9), 6th for 200m Fly (2.37.5) and 7th for 800m Freestyle ( 10.05.4).
Shannon Harrold from Corringham had an amazing swim in the 800m Freestyle (10.08.3) finished 8th overall despite being only the fourth reserve entrant to even qualify for the event.

14 year old Samuel Ward from Aveley continued his good form of late to reach two finals, Sam collected a bronze medal in the 200m Butterfly (2.19.8) and finished 7th in the final of the 100m (1.05.03). Rhys Mould from South Ockendon swam a 15 second personal best time of 17minutes 37.7 seconds in the gruelling1500m Freestyle to earn himself both 10th position overall in the 14 years age group and more importantly his first National Qualifying time of the season. Tomas Purton reached two finals coming 4th in the 100m fly (1.02.7) and 7th in the 100m freestyle (58.07).and Thomas Ingram had his best swim in the 200m fly where he finished 16th (2.37.4).
Charlie Hayes from South Stifford enjoyed a terrific championships in the 11 years age group by coming 4th in both the 400m Individual Medley (5.54.7) and the 200m Fly (2.49.1) also finishing 7th overall in the 400m freestyle (5.11.1), And Kerriann Chipperfield completed her Southern Counties Championship swimming for Thurrock swimming home to fourth place in the final of the 11 years 200m fly (2.44.9) and 8th place in the 100m fly final. Also competing in this age group were Abigail Sayer (14th 200m fly -3.07.5) Emily Malster (24th 400m freestyle 5.22.5), and Joanna Waterman (19th 200m breaststroke 3.21.00).Swimmers can qualify for the National Championships in either 25m competition pools as Blackshots now is, or 50m pools such as Crystal palace. Swimmers do get a better draw on the dday however if they have the 50m time. Molly Epsly from Horndon swam the 800m qualifying time at Blackshots during this years Essex Championships, but romped home in 10 minutes 0.3 seconds to make the equivalent 50m pool time , finishing 7th overall in the 12 year age group In the same age group Robyn Turner swam 5.38.8 in the 400m to clinch 8th place.while her elder sister Brooke aged 15 made no fewer than 4 finalist positions, finishing 5th in the 200m
Freestyle (2.14.0) 6th 400m Freestyle (4.39.3), and 7th in both 100m freestyle (1.02.4) and 800m freestyle (9.34.2).
Three ten year old Thurrock swimmers debuted in their first District Championships. Harriette Davis had her best result in the 200m backstroke finishing 13th (2.59.6), Amy Murphy and Kariena Tubbs came 18th (6.51.6) and 29th (6.05.02) respectively in the 400m Individual Medley and 400m freestyle.
Other Thurrock swimmers had their best results as follows; 12 years Conor Harrold (14th 200m Fly 2.47.0), Braden Wren (15th 200m fly 2.47.5) James Mitchell (17th 1500m Freestyle 19.48.4), 15 years: Ben Grix (15th 200m fly 2.31.1), Christopher Webb (17th 400m Individual medley 5.32.6), Emma Langridge (31st 200m Backstroke 2.39.5) 16 Years Daniella Nice (12th 200m fly 2.46.8).
