Jack Petchey Achievement Awards – medallion presentation evening
Tuesday 15th July 2008
Thurrock Swimming Club joined forces with Stanford-Le-Hope and District Scout Association to hold a joint ‘Jack Petchey Achievement Award Winners’ medallion Presentation evening.
With over 50 Scouts and 12 swimmers receiving awards – we hired the local Thameside Theatre in Grays for the ceremony which has excellent lighting , sounds and projection facilities and capacity for the winners to bring their whole families along - about 300 people in total which created a really thrilling atmosphere.
The Mayor of Thurrock , Cllr John Everitt was our Guest of honour, and other VIPs included local councillors, the President of Thurrock SC , Norman Edgell and both the District Commissioner Peter Cobley and District Chairman, Bob Chaston from Stanford-le-Hope and District Scouts.
The theme of the evening was ‘PROUD’ which was picked up in the Jack Petchey Foundation
The Mayor made the presentations, to a backdrop of the young peoples achievements and what they used their awards for read out with photo opportunities for very proud parents.
The Mayor concluded the presentation with a talk about how PROUD he felt to be Mayor of Thurrock with such terrific young people living in it.
We finished the evening with a social reception.
